1.

Words bubble inside my skull

like a cannibal’s

punch bowl.

2.

Some

seek the limelight

because attention is their currency.

I enjoy being left alone.

I would pay people to stay away from me.

Many celebrities do this.

I want to be famous, so that I can ignore people.

3.

The principal said

that his ex-girlfriend

had mental illness

and that’s why he separated from her

and took their daughter.

“It was traumatic!” He shouted. “So, I understand your trauma.”

He says this to the school

every year.

I wonder about his ex-girlfriend’s story.

Is it the same?

4.

The space in our brain is sacred

and the worst sin

is to fill it

with what doesn’t belong there.

5.

Most of the wisdom of society is wrong.

It is purely reactionary

and does not contain any transferable truth.

This is why most people (in society) are fools.

“You don’t have to like your co-workers to get along with them.”

Teachers say this to students all the time.

They also wear backpacks to work and raise their hands to be called on by administrators.

6.

I tell people

who I don’t like

that I am a man of few words.

I write them down, instead.

7.

A special education teacher talks endlessly

about what she knows

Then she puts me on the spot with a question

that she already knows the answer to

She pauses for me to answer, and then she answers her own question.

She causes me to question my sanity.

I have learned that it is best not to say anything.
