Human Nature is Not Difficult to Fathom

      I drop a line down into it

to

see

how

deep

it

is.

I was late to work

and the garbage truck made a stop

right in the middle of the street,

so I hammered the gas

and drove into oncomming traffic

and nearly got smashed by a school bus.

I cut through the hole and felt the adrenaline rush.

Before that, I was going to a meeting

After that, I was high on life.

It’s good to be reminded of death.
